The Airports Authority of India (Leave) Amendment Regulations, 2026, updates the leave provisions for female employees regarding pregnancy and miscarriage. These regulations, which amend the principal 2003 regulations, come into force as of their publication date in the Official Gazette (August 12, 2026). Key changes include a 180-day maternity leave entitlement and specific limits on leave for medical termination of pregnancy.
Key Points / Main Content
Maternity Leave for Pregnancy
Female employees, including those on probation, are eligible for 180 days of maternity leave from the date of commencement.
This entitlement is restricted to employees with fewer than two surviving children.
Granting of leave is contingent upon the submission of a medical certificate from an authorized medical officer, hospital, or nursing home.
Leave for Miscarriage or Medical Termination
A female employee may be granted maternity leave for up to 45 days in the event of a miscarriage or medical termination of pregnancy.
This leave is available irrespective of the number of surviving children.
The 45-day limit applies to the employee's entire duration of service.
Leave is granted only upon the production of a valid medical certificate.
Exclusions and Omissions
"Threatened abortion" is specifically excluded from the definition of abortion; maternity leave cannot be granted in such cases.
Regulation 16 of the principal Airports Authority of India (Leave) Regulations, 2003, is officially omitted.
