Ministry of Home Affairs Maharashtra to Conduct House listing and Housing Census Operations for Census-2027 from May 16 to June 14, 2026 Posted On: 14 MAY 2026 5:52PM by PIB Mumbai Mumbai, 14 May 2026 The Government of Maharashtra has announced that the House-listing and Housing Census Operations under Census-2027 will be conducted across the State from May 16 to June 14, 2026. The schedule has been notified in the Official Gazette dated February 26, 2026. The State Government has renotified the 33 questions prescribed by the Government of India, which will be canvassed during the month long exercise. Census Enumerators will visit every household to collect information relating to housing conditions, household amenities and assets through a mobile application installed on their official mobile devices. Citizens who have completed Self Enumeration for their households are requested to share their Self-Enumeration Identification (ID) Number with the Enumerators during their visit to facilitate verification and smooth completion of the process. The Government has stated that every respondent is legally bound to answer the notified questions to the best of his or her knowledge or belief. The authority of Census officials to seek such information and the obligation of respondents to provide accurate details are mandated under Section 8 of the Census Act, 1948. The State Government has also assured citizens that all personal and household information collected during the Census will remain strictly confidential under Section 15 of the Census Act, 1948.
