Need to take comprehensive measures for safety and security of women in Andhra Pradesh and other parts of the country-Laid SHRI P. V. MIDHUN REDDY (RAJAMPET): I wish to raise a matter of grave and urgent public importance that is the safety of women in India. As per the latest NCRB data recorded, there were over 4.48 lakh cases of crimes against women each year, nearly 51 every hour. Yet the more troubling figure is what follows
registration: over 23 lakh cases remained pending trial, a pendency rate of 90.8 per cent, with conviction rates languishing around one-quarter. Despite the establishment of Fast Track Courts, there are lakhs of cases still pending in the Courts. In Andhra Pradesh as well, there has been an increase in crime against women. The recent incident of stripping and assault of a woman in Guntur has shaken the confidence of the women in Andhra Pradesh. This also shows the complete failure of the administration to ensure women's safety. I, therefore, request the Home Minister to conduct an inquiry on the safety of Women in Andhra Pradesh and order a state-wise report on Women Safety to reveal the true picture.
