संगीत सीखना िुरू दकया सात वर्ष की उम्र म उन् होंने पहली बार संगीत कायषम मम म गाया 1 म2 म अपने जपता के िहे ांत के बाि, तेरह
वर्ष की लता ने पररवार के भरण-पोर्ण का िाजयत् व अपने हाथों म ले जलया संगीत जनििदेश क गुलाम हदिर ने उनका पररचय बांबे ााकीि
से कराया, और करीब 75 वर्ों तक उन्होने हिारों दफल्मी गीतों को अपनी मधुर आवाज़ िी तथा भारत और जवििे के करोडों लोगों
को मंत्रमुग्ध दकया िीिी, िदसा दक उन् ह आिर से कहा िाता हद, के जलए भार्ा कभी कोई बाधा नहीं रही उन् होंने अजधकांि भारतीय

OBITUARY
F. No.3/1/2022-Public.—Sushree Lata Mangeshkar, singer and Bharat Ratna Awardee died at Breach Candy
Hospital, Mumbai on 6th February, 2022.
2. Born on September 28, 1929 at Indore, Lata Mangeshkar began learning classical music at the age of four
from her father Dinanath Mangeshkar. She held her first concert at the age of seven. When her father died in 1942,
thirteen year old Lata took over the responsibility of supporting the family. Music Director Ghulam Haider introduced
her to Bombay Talkies and for more than 75 long years she lent her melodious voice to songs in hundreds of films,
captivating the hearts of millions in India and abroad. For Didi, as she is respectfully known, language had never been
a barrier. She lent her mellifluous voice to songs in most of the Indian languages and rendered over 30,000 songs. She
has to her credit recordings of the Bhagavad Gita in Sanskrit. Her music has been a source of inspiration to millions of
people in different walks of life, all over the world. Beyond films, she was passionate about India’s growth and always
wanted to see a strong and developed India.
3. Lata Mangeshkar has received numerous awards which include Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan
(1999), Dada Saheb Phalke Award (1989), and the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna (2001) amongst others. In
2009, French Government conferred her with its highest award ‘Officer of the French Legion of Honour’.
4. Lata Mangeshkar was a true nationalist. The coming generation will remember her as a stalwart of Indian
culture, whose singing prowess had an unparalleled ability to mesmerize people. In her passing away, the nation has
lost an eminent singer and a noble person. The nation places on record its appreciation of Sushree Lata Mangeshkar’s
unparalleled accomplishments and her service to the Nation.
