CONTRIBUTION OF MSMEs IN MAHARASHTRA

Will the Minister of MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has assessed the overall contribution of Micro, Small and Medium
Enterprises (MSMEs) in Maharashtra to the country’s manufacturing output, employment generation
and exports and if so, the details thereof, during the last five years;
(b) the total number of MSMEs operating in Maharashtra and their sector-wise contribution to
manufacturing output, employment and exports from the State;
(c) whether the Government has implemented key schemes such as MSME Champions Scheme,
Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and Credit Guarantee Fund Trust
for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) in Mumbai and if so, the details of beneficiaries and
funds allocated therein;
(d) whether any Technology Centres or Export Facilitation Centres have been established in
Mumbai to support MSMEs in sectors such as engineering, electronics, fragrance and flavour and if
so, the details thereof; and
(e) the steps taken to enhance export competitiveness of MSMEs operating from Mumbai,
particularly those linked with port-based trade and global markets?

(a) & (b): The Government promotes the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector
as a key driver of economic growth, employment and exports. MSMEs contribute about 31% to
GDP, 35% to manufacturing output and around 48% to exports of the country. State-wise
contribution of MSMEs, including Maharashtra, is not maintained separately. However, as per data
available on the Udyam Registration Portal, 1,01,44,478 MSMEs have been registered in
Maharashtra as on date, and the employment generated therein, as reported is 3,44,82,817 as on date.
The sector-wise distribution of these MSMEs is as under:

(c): The Government implements the MSME Champions Scheme, Prime Minister’s Employment
Generation Programme (PMEGP) and Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises
(CGTMSE), across the country, including Mumbai. However, being Central Sector Schemes, the
funds are not allocated State/UT-wise. The details of beneficiaries in Mumbai are placed at
Annexure-I.
(d): One MSME Technology Centre i.e., Institute for Design of Electrical Measuring Instruments
(IDEMI) has been established in Mumbai as Government of India Society under Ministry of MSME
to meet the instrumentation needs in Electrical, Electronics or Process Control Instruments.
(e): The Government has taken several steps to enhance the export competitiveness of MSMEs
across the country, including those operating from Mumbai, such as:
Implementation of the International Cooperation (IC) Scheme to support MSMEs for
participation in international exhibitions and trade fairs.
Enhancing quality & competitiveness of MSMEs by Schemes namely MSME Sustainable
(ZED) Certification and MSME Competitive (Lean) Scheme.
Facilitation through digital platforms and e-commerce through MSME Trade Enablement
and Marketing (TEAM) Scheme.
Access to credit through CGTMSE and Self Reliant India(SRI) Fund Schemes
