ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS
(SHRI BANDI SANJAY KUMAR)
(a) and (b): NCRB releases three annual statistical reports namely 'Crime in
India', 'Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India' and 'Prison Statistics India'.
The publications collate data of a calendar year, hence, the process of
collection of data is initiated only after the completion of the respective year.
The data for the reports is collected from 36 States/Union Territories and 53-2-
L.S.US.Q.NO. 332 FOR 21.07.2026
Metropolitan Cities i.e. Cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs. The
latest published report pertains to the year 2024.
The data is collected digitally through a dedicated software application
developed by the Bureau. The data collection and it’s consolidation/
compilation is done at various levels in the District/State by the States/ Union
Territories and subsequently by the Bureau, through this software
application. Data submitted by States/Union Territories is extensively
verified/validated at various levels/stages through the inbuilt checks in the
software application. In case of discrepancy/ inconsistency in the data, the
same is referred back to the respective State/ Union Territory for re-
validation. Necessary trainings for ensuring uniformity, are also imparted to
the States/Union Territories to collect data as per the detailed proformas.
The reports published by the Bureau are made publicly available on the
website of the Bureau.
(c): State/Union Territory -wise details of Crime Rate during last three years
as per published data in “Crime in India” report are given at Annexure I.
