DISCONTINUATION OF BADP FUNDS

Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that Border Area Development
Programme (BADP) funds have reportedly been stopped particularly in the
border villages of Raninagar, Bhagwangola, Jalangi and Domkal in
Murshidabad district and if so, the reasons for this suspension;
(b) whether the ongoing development projects in these border areas—
such as road construction, sanitation facilities, irrigation canals and
community infrastructure—have come to a halt due to the discontinuation
of BADP funds and if so, the details of the affected works; and
(c) the steps being taken by the Government to resume the release of
BADP funds and ensure timely completion of stalled development projects
in these vulnerable border villages to support local connectivity, security
and livelihood needs including the details thereof?

(a to c) Central Government has approved release of funds to States/UTs
under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) for committed

Further, Central Government, has approved the Vibrant Villages
Programme-II (VVP-II), as a Central Sector Scheme, with a total
outlay of ₹6839 crores in select villages in blocks abutting
International Land Borders (ILBs) (other than northern borders
covered in VVP-I) in the States/UTs of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,
Bihar, Gujarat, J&K, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram,
Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar
Pradesh and West Bengal.
The objective of the programme is to create better living conditions
and adequate livelihood opportunities to ensure prosperous and safe
borders, control trans-border crime and assimilate the border
population with the nation.
