IMPLEMENTATION OF PMEGP

Will the Minister of MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES be pleased to state:
(a) the number of applications received and approved under the Prime Minister’s Employment
Generation Programme (PMEGP) in the Karur Parliamentary constituency since its inception;
(b) the total amount of financial assistance provided to entrepreneurs under the scheme in Karur
constituency, specifically for the establishment of micro enterprises and small industries;
(c) the steps taken by the Government under the PMEGP scheme to increase awareness and
participation of local entrepreneurs, especially in rural and semi-urban areas of Karur;
(d) whether there are any schemes/initiatives to specifically support traditional industries like
textile and coir-based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Karur region under the PMEGP
and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the number of new jobs created in Karur as a result of the implementation of PMEGP in the
region?

(a) and (b): As per available data, since FY 2016-17 till FY 2025-26 (up to 21.01.2026), a total of
31,731 number of applications have been received under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation
Programme (PMEGP) in the Karur Parliamentary Constituency and 8,774 applications have been
sanctioned by Banks. Margin Money (MM) Subsidy of Rs. 136.95 crore has been disbursed under
PMEGP in the Karur Parliamentary Constituency.
(c): The steps taken by the Government under PMEGP to increase awareness and participation of
local entrepreneurs throughout the country including Karur are as follows:
i. Enhancement of maximum project cost from Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh for manufacturing
sector and from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh for service sector for enhanced participation of local
entrepreneurs.
ii. Inclusion of applicants from Aspirational districts and transgenders under Special Category
eligible for higher subsidy.
iii. Awareness programmes, webinars and workshops in all the States/UTs including underserved
and under-performing areas, Aspirational districts, North Eastern Region, etc.
iv. Acceptance of PMEGP applications from beneficiaries in physical form in 19 regional
languages excluding Hindi and English.
v. Disseminating Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material and video clips in
regional languages to promote PMEGP scheme in remote areas.: 2 :
vi. Conduct of two-days free online Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) for
prospective entrepreneurs.
vii. To enhance the quality of applications to reduce rejections, technical experts & Bank Officials
(Retd.) have been engaged to provide handholding support to prospective PMEGP
beneficiaries during application stage.
viii. A wide range of more than 1,000 Model of Detailed Project Reports have been prepared on
various industries and made available on the PMEGP online portal.
(d): Under PMEGP, financial assistance in the form of MM subsidy on Bank loans is provided to
traditional artisans and unemployed youth for setting up of new micro enterprises and generation of
sustainable employment opportunities in the non farm sector across the country including Karur
region. Beneficiaries belonging to traditional industries which include textile and coir based activities
are primarily based in rural areas and receive higher rates of MM subsidy of the project cost as
compared to beneficiaries belonging to urban areas.
(e): As per available data, since FY 2016-17 till FY 2025-26 (up to 21.01.2026), estimated
employment opportunities to around 38,976 persons have been generated under PMEGP in the Karur
Parliamentary Constituency.
