Parliament Question: National standard for bomb disposal system

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3741 TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 25TH MARCH, 2026/ CHAITRA 4, 1948 (SAKA) NATIONAL STANDARD FOR BOMB DISPOSAL SYSTEM 3741 SHRI S.R. SIVALINGAM: Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether Government has formulated and notified the first national standard for bomb disposal systems with the objective of strengthening internal security infrastructure and standardising safety benchmarks across agencies dealing with explosive threats; (b) if so, the details of the scope, technical parameters and testing protocols prescribed under the notified standard, along with the role of Government in its development and validation; and (c) the manner in which Government plans to ensure adoption of this standard by manufacturers and security agencies and its expected impact on operational preparedness and public safety? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI NITYANAND RAI) (a) to (c) As per available information, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued Indian Standards 19445:2025 on ‘Performance evaluation and Requirements’ of Bomb Disposal Systems on 24 December 2025. This standard specifies the qualitative requirements and related test methods applicable for various types of bomb disposal systems. The details are-2- R.S.US.Q.NO.3741 FOR 25.03.2026 available on BIS website. This standard has been developed following extensive consultations with stakeholders to ensure that it meets the operational realities, safety considerations, and field-level requirements. It is available to all the user agencies, including manufacturers and security agencies, for adoption. ******
