STEPS TO STRENGTHEN ANTI-NARCOTICS UNITS IN BENGALURU
557 SHRI JAGGESH:
Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that Government has identified Bengaluru as a high-
risk city for narcotics trafficking and substance abuse;
(b) whether Government has taken note of repeated drug seizures in
Bengaluru despite ongoing enforcement drives;
(c) whether Government has reviewed the functioning of anti-narcotics units
operating in Bengaluru city and suburban areas; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and steps taken by Government to strengthen
anti-narcotics units operating in the city, details thereof?

(a) & (b) City-wise data of drug seizures are not being maintained. However,
the details of seizures, cases and arrests in Karnataka as reported by all Drug
Enforcement Law Agencies to Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) during the year
2022 to 2025 (up to November) is as under: -

(c) & (d) State Government of Karnataka vide notification dated 02.08.2025
constituted an Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) having 66 sanctioned posts
headed by Additional Director General of Police. The “Police” and “Public
Order” are State subjects under the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of
India and, accordingly, the responsibility to maintain law and order,
investigation and prosecution of crimes etc. rests with the State Government.
Accordingly, review of functioning of State Anti-narcotics Units working in
Bengaluru comes under purview of Government of Karnataka. However,
Government of India in various forums like ANTF conferences, NCORD
meeting, meetings with State Governments etc. emphasize the need for
effective functioning of State Anti-narcotics units and also gives necessary
suggestions to all ANTF Units to enable them to improve their performance
in the drive against narcotics menace.
