GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1383 TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 28TH JULY, 2026/ SHRAVANA 6, 1948 (SAKA) WASTE DISPOSAL SITES IN CHANDIGARH 1383. SHRI MANISH TEWARI: Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation have established the proposed 17 new sites for disposal of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste in the Union Territory; (b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons for the delay; (c) the total amount of C&D waste generated annually in Chandigarh and the current capacity available for its safe disposal; (d) whether the Administration has conducted any environmental audit or study to assess the ecological impact of unregulated C&D waste dumping; and (e) the steps being taken to ensure that each ward in the city has at least one dedicated C&D waste collection point as per the targets laid down in 2025? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI NITYANAND RAI) (a) and (b) The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has already established 23 sites for disposal of Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste under the area in its jurisdiction. The details of the sites are enclosed at Annexure-A. (c) The total amount of C&D waste generated annually in Chandigarh is 13,285 Metric Tonnes, and the annual Capacity for its processing and safe disposal is 45,000 Metric Tonnes.-2- L.S.US.Q.NO. 1383 FOR 28.07.2026 (d) There is no unregulated dumping of C&D Waste in Chandigarh. Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has deployed adequate vehicles including tippers and loaders to facilitate lifting of C&D waste generated.
