NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 19th June, 2018
G.S.R. 576(E).—In exercise of the power conferred by sub-section (1) of section 18 of the Census Act,
1948 (37 of 1948), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Census
Rules, 1990, namely:—
1. Short title and commencement.—(1) These rules may be called the Census (Amendment) Rules, 2018.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Census Rules, 1990, for rule 11, the following shall be substituted, namely:-
“11. Disposal of census schedule and other connected papers.—The schedules and other connected
papers shall be disposed of totally or in part by the Director of Census Operations, after creating
electronic record of such documents, in accordance with the general or special directions as may be
given by the Census Commissioner in this behalf.
Explanation: For the purpose of this rule, ‘electronic record’ shall have the same meaning as
assigned to it in clause(t) of sub-section (1) of section 2 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (21
of 2000).”.
