The death of Dr. Syed Ahmed has deprived the country of a distinguished politician, author and administrator. 2. Born on March 6, 1945, Dr. Syed Ahmed obtained Master’s Degree twice in Hindi and English from Lucknow University and Doctorate in Urdu from Bombay University. He started his political career by joining the Indian National Congress in 1977. He was elected for the Vidhan Sabha on five occasions as a representative of the Nagpada constituency in Mumbai. He also served as a Minister of State in Maharashtra in different capacities in the year 1986 and 1991. 3. Dr. Syed Ahmed held the positions of Chairman, Maharashtra State Haj Committee (2001-06), Member Central Haj Committee (1985-88 & 2001-06) and Member, Central Wakf Council, Government of India. He also held the positions of President, Maharashtra Welfare Centre, Mumbai; President, Sabira Naqi Education Society, UP; President, Tameeri Idaara, UP; President, Awadh Cultural Society, Mumbai; President, Sayed & Sayed Educational Trust, Mumbai and Patron Green Mumbai Movement, Mumbai. 4. Dr. Syed Ahmed was sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand on September 4, 2011 and remained there till May 16, 2015. He was sworn as Governor of Manipur on May 16, 2015. 5.
