Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah participates in a special discussion in Rajya Sabha today on Operation Sindoor - India's strong, successful and decisive response to the Pahalgam terror attack
**Summary:**
On July 30, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Rajya Sabha in a special discussion regarding "Operation Sindoor," India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack. He outlined the government's actions following the attack, including Operation Mahadev, which resulted in the elimination of three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists identified as being involved in the Pahalgam attack. Forensic analysis of recovered weapons confirmed their use in the attack.
Shah detailed the investigation, which involved the NIA, the collection of 1055 statements, and the arrest of individuals who provided shelter to the terrorists. He emphasized the coordinated efforts of the Army, CRPF, and Jammu Kashmir Police in the 22-day operation.
The Home Minister stated that following the Pahalgam attack, a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting was convened, leading to the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, closure of the Attari Integrated Check Post, suspension of SAARC visas for Pakistani citizens, and a reduction in Pakistani High Commission staff in New Delhi. Operational freedom was granted to the armed forces, resulting in the destruction of terrorist bases within Pakistan.
Shah reported a 70% reduction in terrorism in Kashmir, attributing this to the abrogation of Article 370, successful Panchayat elections, and a decline in local Kashmiri youth joining terrorist organizations. He noted increased investment in Kashmir, a decrease in stone-pelting incidents, and a ban on terrorist funerals.
The Minister highlighted improvements in equipping the Indian Army and successes in curbing terror financing, confiscating properties, and reducing violence in the North East and Naxalism-affected areas. He defended Operation Sindoor as an act of self-defense under the UN Charter and reiterated the government's commitment to reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Shah criticized the opposition's alleged appeasement policies, accusing them of undermining national security and providing Pakistan with undue leniency. He contrasted this with the Modi government's decisive actions, including surgical strikes, airstrikes, and the elimination of terrorists within Pakistani territory.
The Minister also highlighted the Modi government's achievements in economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare, including increased GDP, per capita income, highway construction, airport operations, and the provision of basic amenities to 60 crore people. He emphasized India's improved international standing and the Prime Minister's decisive leadership.
