Parliament Question: Construction of Girls' Hostel under PMJVK

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF MINORITY AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO - 4521 ANSWERED ON- 20/08/2025 CONSTRUCTION OF GIRL’S HOSTEL UNDER PMJVK 4521. SHRI ANTO ANTONY: Will the Minister of MINORITY AFFAIRS be pleased to state:- (a) the number of girl’s hostels that have been sanctioned and constructed under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) during the last five years, State-wise; (b) the total budget allocated and utilised for the construction of girl's hostels under PMJVK during the said period, year-wise; (c) the percentage of girl’s hostels sanctioned and currently operational under PMJVK; and (d) the number of applications for new girl’s hostels under PMJVK that have been approved, pending or rejected during the last three years? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF MINORITY AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU) (a) to (c): "Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram" (PMJVK), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, is one of the flagship programmes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs for creation of community infrastructure in the Minority Concentration Areas (MCAs) of the country in sectors such as Health, Skill Development, Education, Women-centric Projects, Drinking Water Supply, Sanitation, Sports, Renewable Energy, Tourism, Animal Husbandry, and other community infrastructure. The scheme also aims to improve the social and economic conditions of the Minority Communities in the respective areas. Under PMJVK, the funds are allocated based on project proposals submitted by States/Union Territories Government, rather than through pre-determined State/UT-wise allocations. During the last five years, a total of 66 hostels at an aggregate cost of ₹ 28,937.31 lakh have been approved, of which 33 hostels, costing ₹ 13,695.00 lakh, are exclusively for girls. The details of hostels approved under PMJVK during the last five years are given at Annexure-I.
