EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS OPERATED BY CHRISTIANS
1881. SHRI DEREK O’ BRIEN:
Will the Minister of MINORITY AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of education institutions managed and operated by Christian minority
community, State/UT-wise;
(b) the number of students enrolled in these institutions; and
(c) whether Government provides any scheme support or grants to such institutions, if so, the
State/UT-wise details of funds released during the last three years?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF MINORITY AFFAIRS

(a) to (c) The National Commission for Minority Educational institutions (NCMEI) is a
quasi-judicial, statutory body under the Ministry of Education, which safeguards the
educational rights of the minorities as enshrined in the Article 30(1) of the Constitution and
decides all questions relating to the status of any institution as a Minority Educational
institution and declares its status as such.
The data regarding Christian institutions which have been granted Minority Status
Certificate by the Commission is enclosed as Annexure -I.
Data regarding the students enrolled in these institutions is not maintained by the
National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCEMI) and it does not provide
financial assistance to these institutions.
